Bad at Step Counting

Glad to see that I still had a question and yet the conversation got locked, thanks guys, appreciate that.

So you say it's an outside watch, which is another fail, because when I go mountain biking, again zero steps as you say it only senses arm swing.

So can you at least tell me this before I get this conversation locked out......does Garmin sell ANY accessory that I can strap to my shoe or leg that will give me accurate steps?

  • Strap watch to leg?....

Sorry I don't understand your question, sorry you got your question blocked?.. but I didn't see it, all I can read from your post is your getting zero steps for mountain biking... Well that's good isn't it... I thought steps were for walking /hiking /running etc.... are you trying to count pedal rotations?...

If you're getting steps by accident, then try a better mount?...

Steps are counted when I am not moving except my arm. Garmin already told me that is the way it works. Useless for me as I strive to go beyond my daily step count and packing boxes all day, does a lot of arm swings even though I don't move my legs. I have found my solution, my Oura ring after testing the last 2 months does accurate step counts, I would have preferred that in a almost one thousand dollar watch, but go figure, a 299 ring does it perfectly.

Currently not. In theory it is possible to create a watch app that gets data from a (custom) foot- leg- or waist-worn ANT+ sensor, but integrating with Garmin's activity tracking/step counting mechanism is not possible for a user app, as far as I know, so it's not interesting to invest time & effort in that.

In addition to what others already suggested: perhaps buying the cheapest Garmin activity tracker that supports TrueUp and sticking that in a pocket would work. Better try with a borrowed device first, to check that it does actually work to sync steps to you Fenix 5.
