Fenix 5 Plus Series - ANT/BLE/BT v6.09 Beta

Hello Fenix 5/5S/5X Plus users,

We have a new beta update for the ANT/BLE/BT software for your devices, version 6.09. This update contains a fix for battery drain that could occur after playing music.

This does not include a system software update - it only updates the ANT/Bluetooth peripheral software. This update is applicable to all Fenix 5 Plus models (5s Plus, 5 Plus, and 5x Plus). Instructions for installation are available below the change log on the page linked above.

ANT/BLE/BT v6.09 Change Log:

Thanks for getting back to me about this.

I have no earphones paired with the watch. The BLE sensor was a Wahoo RPM dual-mode cadence sensor. I was using the BLE-variant of the sensor for a while. I have now deleted the BLE-variant and use only ANT+ sensors.

BTW I don't think my power drain issue was related to this. After all activities the watch displayed 'sync failed' and then stayed in high power mode (seen on device usage widget) until I switched off Bluetooth on the watch or the phone, or restarted the watch. These days that 'sync' is successful, and the watch goes right back in low power mode.

The 'sync' is not data transfer, my account is set to not upload any data.

  • Some stats... Approx values using Better Battery Widget.

With software version 12.00 and ANT_BLE 5.04...AVG battery drain with stock watchface, no seconds, in daytime, with no gps or watch use is 0.2per hour... Also there is no problem with battery drain after activity using my Fenix 5x plus. 0.1% during the night connected to the phone....

    :::::::::::::::::

With software version 13.00 and this beta ANT_BLE 6.09, and using the same settings as above, the drain is 0.2 per hour... 0.1% during the night.

Battery drain after activity is 0.2 per hour...

Battery drain is fixed using both versions.

So far, so good. 0.3% - 0.5% after activity with GPS + Bluetooth Headphones. But severe battery drain while running (25% - 1 hour with GPS + headphones). Is that normal?

  • No, with headphones and heart rate monitor about 15% is typical when running with GPS.

0.3 - 0.5% per hour is too high too, you should be seeing 0.3% per hour, or around 3 hours per 1% or 8% per day. This is what I see with 12.00 and ANT 5.04

I see. My situation is not so good, then. Thanks.

  • Thank for working on this. Can you please send a detail protocol to install this using a Mac? At present there is a description only for PC. Thanks

  • Osx is not stock mtp compatible. But you could use 3rd party software. Commander one is compatible with mtp and you could install the patch on fenix 5 plus. I have done successfully.

  • Thanks for the advice. I tried commander but could not do with the free version. I used android file transfer and worked. At least I installed the new ant version. Testing watch right now and hopefully this correct the different issues I have.

  • Thanks so much for this. I installed and testing the watch right now, hopefully it will solve the problem. Will keep updated.

Now the question is, what incentive Garmin gives to all of us which paid hundreds of dollars of our gadget and need to be reporting a testing software for the company?

    I appreciate a serious reply

  • You should have it this way to make it okay!
