Lose part of GPS+GLONASS run track after uploading.

Using Fenix 5S Plus for running.

After loading to Garmin connect and looking at the run, I noticed that after 10 minutes, GPS+GLONASS track has been lost (but heart rate, pace, elevation and everything else still there).

I was running back and forth along the street, then I stopped to buy a loaf of bread, and then started the run home, and GPS track was fine.

I thought maybe it lost GPS+GLONASS reception, but when I look at the activity livetracking, it showed the complete track.  However, when I look at the activity on Garmin connect, it's missing about 20 minutes (until I stopped to buy bread and started again) .

Livetracking (no GPS tracking missing)

From Garmin Connect (tracking lost after 10 mins)

It's an open route (very few trees or tall buildings around).

Does anyone know what could be happening here?

Thank you

  • I have had the issue a few times. The strange thing is if you chose to visualise the lap markings they are in the right position.

Wow, that is very strange! I just clicked to view the lap markings and they're in the right position, as you mentioned!

I opened up the FIT file in another application and the pace/cadence is just a straight line from point where tracking ended to point where tracking picked up again.

Same issue here. Had to exchange my watch back in April due to repeated tracking failures (Garmin obviously knew about the issue) and unfortunately the problem has just started again now. Did not know about the lap markers still showing but checked and they are. Very frustrating. Anyone found a long term fix for this or is it just a fundamental problem that Garmin can't sort out?
