Waypoint distance/time screen?

I'm doing a fastpacking trip next week and would like to set up waypoints for water along the way. It would be nice to know how far away the next water option was.

I'm able to set up waypoints, but as far as I can see I'm only able to set up my watch screens to display the distance and time to the next course point (next turn) -even if they're still named waypoints. I'll more or less be following the course on the map screen anyway, so destination to the next turn is not really important.

Is that not a feature, or am I missing something in the menus?

(Sorry if I missed this somewhere else in the forum. I DID look. Wink)

  • if you've set up your course points (water stops) [ in trail running, it's called check points] then you can use that.

there's a key trick in getting Garmin Courses to ignore the course point (turn by turn - that's the default). Ive only managed to get it done by using 3rd party sites.

    1) plotaroute.com

    2) edit your course, add the course points

    3) export the file as Fit

    4) connect watch to desktop/Mac/pc etc

    5) drop the fit file into NEWfiLES

    then give it a try.

    That works for me.

Thanks for contributing, Nikeow. It's a bit of a far workaround for my taste, but I'll check it out. Thumbsup I was hoping that maybe I'd missed something in a menu.

Wonder if there might be a screen on ConnectIQ that does the trick...
