Garmin Fenix 5s plus maps not showing on watch

I have just got a Garmin Fenix 5s plus and the map does not seem to be working? On the map screen it’s just grey with an arrow showing where I am, when zooming in there is no detail at all? I have done a GPS soak but still no map detail is shown. Also when you go to configure maps there is no page after? Can anyone help?

  • Same issue here. Is it an update issue or is it a watch issue?

  • Same here. I waited for 30 minutes before a run, finally gave up. Was in a new place and could have used the map feature to get an idea of where I am. Really not sure what's going on....

  • I've been experiencing this for months now. None of the maps or firmware seem to solve this. The Garmin Customer support wasn't of any help either (asking me to reinstall and reinstall again the maps hoping that it will finally solve the problem).

BUT, the kinda solution I've found is : simply plugging the watch on a computer, waiting a few seconds for it to switch to transfer mode then unplugging it then wait for the watch to refresh its data.... After this, the maps will work smoothly again, until the watch reboots again.

This is why I've disabled the automatic firmware update and I keep the watch charged at all times.
