fenix 5 Plus - Virtual Cycing

Hello,

I've been doing a lot of virtual cycling on Zwift and the Sufferfest, I have both apps uploading to connect automatically but I have also started to record these rides on my fenix to try and record my 'performance condition'. But obviously there are some discrepancies between the two activities in connect. What I have been doing is editing the fenix recorded activity so the distance/speed etc. are all set to zero so my 'performance condition' is kept but the actual acitivity this relates to is the zwift/the sufferfest uploaded activity.

(Hopefully that makes sense)

Am I being a bit silly here? Is there a better way of doing this or is it just not worth doing it?

Many Thanks for any input.

Steve

  • I use Zwift extensively and I have a different approach.

My Zwift rides are synced from Zwift to Strava. This preserves data such as simulated speed, ascent, segment times, who I ride with etc.. Strava also records all my other "activities" such as outdoor rides, runs, hikes etc. So it keeps a true log of overall distance/achievements day to day, annually and so on. It's also where I maintain records of mileage for my gear, so I know when things need maintenance or replacement.

At the same time I record with my Fenix watch to maintain a record of *ME*, my fitness, training load, recovery, VO2 and everything that a 24 hour lifestyle involves.

I don't mess with the data. I keep it separate - two views of the same activities - one now looks at what I've done. The other view looks at what my training has done to me.

    I hope that makes sense.

Also, using Strava means I'm platform agnostic. Strava doesn't care where my data comes from. I used to use Polar before Garmin. It's all in there. Trying to integrate Polar data files into the Garmin ecosystem is inconvenient (you need to export and edit ever file) and leaves much missed out related to load/stress etc.. If I switch to, or add Suunto or similar into the pot I can still merge it all into my Strava dataset.

Thanks for the input, that’s kind of where I was heading I think, makes sense to have it all syncing to a platform that you can sync anything to like strava.

Only thing with strava is the limited gear tracking, I think you can only track one price of gear per activity. I’ll maybe have another look at that though.

    thanks again
