Fenix 5+ power drain

Hello,

I've got a battery drain issue with my fenix 5+. They were not in use for the last 2 months. After powering up, updating (to SW 11.00) and charging the battery life became completely disastrous. In smartwatch mode it consumed aroud 0.4..0.5% per hour. But after first outdoor activity with GPS it started to burn the power like demon. Average consumption ranged from 1.5% to 2% per hour and never less. I tried rebooting and soft reset; this helped until the first GPS activity. After that the power drain returned to the extra level. All external sensors (including wrist HR) were turned off. Moreover, I've tried the beta SW (11.73) - nothing new: after resetting everything looks fine till the first GPS connect.

I love my watches, but the power drain is far off the specification and dissapointes me. I see that without any sport activity battery works well and could hold the charge up to 8..9 days. But it doesn't fit me.
Do you have any idea how to troubleshoot this?

PS: I tried to fully discharge and recharge the battery to recalibrate the circuits.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi, Andy. So I sent you FW 12 for F5x plus via email! In the picture you have everything the same as me except GPS! You have 2.70 there and I have 2.60, but that could change after uploading to FW 12. Either straight away or it will prompt you to change to a GPS driver. But you can also unpack SW 12 from the package SW 13 is there in the folder System_Backdate_v12. 00!

  • Yes, I have a later beta which contains 12.00 in the System_Backdate_v12.00 folder

I am recharging again this morning at 20% for my longer run and have continued to monitor drain - at 420PM I was at 24%, at 915PM I was at 22% and then 20% at 7AM today so 2% drop overnight from 915PM to 7AM.

  • Thanks, got your emails as well Slight smile.  I don't know if the GPS driver will make a difference, but I've got everything else set this morning (FW 12.00 and the ANT/BLE/BT driver at 5.04).  Gonna go out for a run here shortly and monitor the battery post activity.

  • Thank you.  God, this is frustrating me with the battery drain problem post activity still.  I hope reverting back to FW12.00 will alleviate the problem.  Still have 5.04 for the ANT/BLE/BT driver on my watch.

  • Andy
When you install SW 12, look at the watch for the gps driver if you don't have an exclamation mark (!) Behind it. If not, that's fine, if so, you'll have to update the gps driver!
  • Thanks, yes no exclamation point after the gps driver

  • Went out for a run this morning with 96% battery (FW12.00 and ANT/BLE/BT 5.04).  Had GPS and music (bluetooth headphones) on.  After my 1 hour run, battery was 86% at 10:30AM.  It is now 7:30PM and battery is 83%.  Battery dropped about 0.3% per hour.  Everything seems good so far, thank goodness.  If I don't go out for another run tomorrow, it'll be Tuesday.  Maybe FW13.00 and ANT/BLUE/BT 5.04 aren't compatible in regards to normal battery drain post-activity?  Gonna keep testing it but so far so good.Sunglasses

  • Hi, Andy. Yeah yeah yeah, that looks goodThumbsup!

  • I am experiencing, the same issues, since the auto update updated my watch to 13. Besides that it deleted many settings!! i have now a huge battery drain issue. Normally easily one week, now max 2 days without sporting. I am reading that i should downgrade? How do i do that? Or is there a patch coming? Thanks in advance.

  • I have not seen a single update since the days of my Fenix 1 without complaints about battery drain. My F5+ works fine with 13.0 and the versions before. All battery drains I had with my Fenixes were caused by 3rd party watchfaces. First hint is to switch the watch off and on again!
