Fenix 5+ power drain

Hello,

I've got a battery drain issue with my fenix 5+. They were not in use for the last 2 months. After powering up, updating (to SW 11.00) and charging the battery life became completely disastrous. In smartwatch mode it consumed aroud 0.4..0.5% per hour. But after first outdoor activity with GPS it started to burn the power like demon. Average consumption ranged from 1.5% to 2% per hour and never less. I tried rebooting and soft reset; this helped until the first GPS activity. After that the power drain returned to the extra level. All external sensors (including wrist HR) were turned off. Moreover, I've tried the beta SW (11.73) - nothing new: after resetting everything looks fine till the first GPS connect.

I love my watches, but the power drain is far off the specification and dissapointes me. I see that without any sport activity battery works well and could hold the charge up to 8..9 days. But it doesn't fit me.
Do you have any idea how to troubleshoot this?

PS: I tried to fully discharge and recharge the battery to recalibrate the circuits.

Thank you in advance.

How can so many people have the same problem with an alleged quality brand and product!?

i purchased the F5+ due to the battery claims.... 48 hours with no activities and it’s dead!!

come on Garmin, provide a solution that is fixed automatically with a standard update, rather than having to stand on a table with your trouser leg rolled up, your left arm up in the air while muttering some strange Garmin mantra!

  • Short update, I am still fine with it.

yesterday I rode for 5 hours and no post activity drain

  • According to the Facebook group, many still have a drain problem. Now I have SW 12.00 (GPS 2.60, Wi-Fi 2.50, CIQ 3.1.8, WHR 20.03.32, ANT/BLE/BT 5.04 and sensor hub 2.40) with a 5x battery (see above how I squeezed it into mine 5 plus). But even it can hold a charge no more than 4..5 days, although according to the specs it should do it up to 20 days. I disabled HR monitor and incessant display update. Also did a soft and hard reset; discharged completely with a subsequent all-night charge - nothing helped. The drain is at the level of 0.8..1.5%. What is strange, during GPS activity, the drain is about 4%, which in theory ensures work for 25 hours and this corresponds to the specs.

That suggests that the discharge problem reveales only out of activity.

@, how many days your 5 plus can hold a charge? According to the documentation it should be up to 12 days.

@, I'm curious about your consumption, too)

P.S.: as I have three different batteries (original from 5X plus, 5 plus and non-original from 5 plus) I compared battery consumption: 2.5 days for 5 plus battery (361-00097-00) and 4..5 days for 5X battery (361-00098-00).

  • Since I loaded the driver ANT / BLE / BT 5.04, I have no problem with consumption! Now I also have SW 12.00, GPS 2.60, Wi-Fi 2.50, CIQ 3.1.8, BMX 0.4.3, WHR 20.03.32 , ANT / BLE / BT 5.04, Sensor Hub 2.40. I still have the HR monitor enabled, my backlight is activated at the hand gesture. Today's daily consumption without activities I have 4.6%. So I'm still happy!

Hi, Does anybody have a copy of the ANT_BLE_BT_v5.05 or know where I can download it it from?

    Many Thanks

  • Surely it's v5.05 or do you mean v5.04?

I think you have mentioned that v5.04 has fixed your  batttery problem. I am having the same problem with my Fenix 5x plus. Thought to try it, maybe I get lucky! My problem started a few weeks ago.

  • If you have v6.03 now, it will definitely help you move to v5.04!
