Hello,
I am looking for suggestions on how to track what I call "obstacle run".
What do I mean by obstacle run?
It's my custom workout I use as a preparation for events like Spartan Race.
It goes like this: 3 km run --> 20 x [200 m run + 10 x squats + short 5 m downhill and uphill run (as I run along a river embankment) + 10 push-ups + 5 burpees] --> 3 km run.
So 10 km of run with some additional exercise along the route.
What do I want?
I want to track this activity so that:
- it has a GPS data and shows with map and track on activity page and has metrics like run (distance, pace...)
- it is not treated as a regular run as an activity type, since 1) it could potentially distort my VO2 max & lactate threshold & training status metrics and 2) I use the same route also for regular runs and I don't want Strava to distort my "Matched Runs" stats
(So run activity type is promoted by the first requirement but ruled out by the second one. And, say, cardio activity is promoted by the second requirement but ruled out by the first one.)
What did I try that failed?
- I created a workout composed of all those phases including runs and used it in a cardio activity. But there was obviously no map and running stats related in resulting activity, even though it included runs (Garmin doesn't bother using this information even though it is in the used workout).
- I created a custom multi-sport activity but in the end it was exported to Strava as many individual activities. Some of them runs, some of them something else.... Fail.
Any ideas?
I don't consider this critical.
It's just about fun factor.
But it's a pity that you can create a very complex workout but it is not treated (at least by Garmin, Strava is external anyhow) as a category on its own.
