Hello everybody,

Does somebody know if is possible to install topographical maps (topo v6) on a fenix 5x plus sapphire? I think it is not possible because because the watch has only 15 MB storage capacity available. But I might be wrong. Does anybody know?

Well, that is Garmin ConnectIQ tells me. 15 MB  available for apps. Topo v6 is an app or?

  • The watch has more than 15MB. Please do a Google search.

  • I believe it's a map.

  • I think from memory there's something like 15Gb of available storage

What versions are available on Garmin Express?

  • Hi Harry,

Yes it is. I purchased the Australia / New Zealand Topo Full (v6) map when I first got my D2 Delta (functionally similar to the 5x plus) and it installed no problem. I can remove and reinstall at any time with no issue. The AU/NZ one is around 3.5 Gb though. Note that the map is NOT an app. It originally installs directly on the unit within the Garmin folder via Garmin Express. You can see your actual space remaining if connected via USB to a PC/Mac. After the initial install you can remove/archive and reinstall by copying map via USB transfer.

Note that whilst the v6 map had many more waypoints (like train stations missing on the Topo Active maps), it is quite out of date now (2014) and the Topo Active gives much more pertinent data for walking which is handier for me.....

    Regards, Avo

  • There is limited space for CIQ apps. but that doesn't include maps.  There's far more space for other things.

Connect to a PC and you'll see the total space is about 14gb - how much is free depends on what you have loaded as far as maps, music, activities, etc.

  • Just to add to everyone else's good advice....

Maps can be problematic updating..... (European especially) historic wise I've either not been able to download the maps because of Garmin errors..... Or it updates perfectly other times...

I've downloaded the new map updates before with only 100mb left of space... the program should take your old maps off.... then install the new ones without needing to store both maps on the watch..... That's how is should work all the time..... But sometimes this doesn't happen on new map updates.... (Garmin bug)... and we're forced to try and create space by manually deleting the old maps... This isn't how its supposed to work.... but its often what we have to work with....

    All the best...

Hi Avo, thank you very much. I have found it now. 7,7 GB are free out of 16. Any experience with detailed topo maps 1:10000? they cone on SD card and cannot be downloaded directly. I was a bit surprised about this.

    regards Harry

Hi, thanks you very much. Yes, it is about 14 GB and about 8 are still available. Do you have any experience with 1:10000 topo maps? Are they taking a lot of space?
