Hello Fenix 5/5S/5X Plus users,

This does not include a system software update - it only updates the ANT/Bluetooth peripheral software. This update is applicable to all Fenix 5 Plus models (5s Plus, 5 Plus, and 5x Plus). Instructions for installation are available below the change log on the page linked above.

ANT/BLE/BT v5.04 Change Log:

  • Improve Connection Stability

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to [email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.

  • If I install this and have more problems after installation i'm assuming I can simply replace the file with the 4.30 update file to go back to original. Forgive my ignorance as I'm new to this. Just have problems with the HRM dropping out all the time and somebody suggested maybe an update to the BLE/ANT+/BL . I am currently running 4.30 with Firmware 11.00 and thought I'd give this a go unless you have a better suggestion?

  • I just took this version out for a run with my Jabra 65 Actives. Not sure the protocol for Bluetooth, but it was horrendous for the first 5 min cutting in an out as if something was interfering. After that 5 min, the connection was solid. I confirm there was no interference with buildings, etc from my watch to my headphones. I also restarted my watch after I installed this update prior to my run. Looking forward to a new update. Thanks!

  • Tried to run with new update:

    1) Running in urban area - 20 meter high buildings, few trees, road near with moderate traffic - impossible to listen music just 30% of time is acceptable, constant interruptions.
    2) Running in forest/park near city - better, sometimes locks to device firmly 70% of time is acceptable.
    3) Indoor - 95% acceptable have few routers on, lots of other bluetooth devices always on.

I don't understand how it cannot lock to earphones correctly, especially when you running your hands is raised it's 30 cm between receiver and watch. No body parts or clothing blocking signal. I don't talking about hands lowered in standard position, its impossible to listen at all in all areas.

Tried with: Sony WH-1000XM3, Samung Galaxy Buds, few other cheap Chinese buds.

Overall: a little improvement, but not acceptable, it possible to get refund for faulty device for this reason?

I'm not very smart  - does this allow you use ANT+ with 5x+?

  • As far as I am aware Ant+ is standard on Garmin watches

  • Giving this a try as Spotify decided cut out mid run this morning and refused to reconnect, never happened before.... most likely the app itself but I don't mind experimenting.

Installed this update and used them this morning. I am using Samsung iconx 2018 earbuds for listening music from fenix 5 plus. Disappointing results. Still experiencing outage, no improvement. Not an acceptable result. Music is still stopping, both sides,  sometimes left or right. For information, I am running in an open field, along. Not a lot of houses in the area. When I  don't run earbuds are working fine. Wearing my watch on my left wrist.

Its irritating when buying good materials and not getting them working properly.

Someone a solution? Or advice for a good pair of earbuds working good during running?

    Thanks,

  • Prob best to refer to the supported list of headsets https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=FnVJLBvvw51RfH3OE2YUO6  for running/cycling I have an Aftershokz headset. Never had a problem with them, my issue reported previously was a red herring. I realised my playlist had ended and wasn't set to repeat/random Blush. I'm running the beta as well without issue (so far!)
