Heart Rate reading too high

My watch updated yesterday to 10.10 software. I have the Heart Rate configured on it by default but yesterday when riding (with my chest heart rate strap synched), my heart rate spiked to approx 20bpm higher than it should be and 10 higher than my max.   Thinking it might be my strap, I swapped the chest strap today to another and had the same result.  My heart rate range has been fine (normal) on Zwift this past week.   I'll try my Edge 1030 hopefully some time in the next week but has anyone see similar behavior?

A search here only highlighted HR anomolies using the watch heart rate which is why I use chest monitors.   Maybe even though the watch is finding my chest heart rate, it is using the watch?

Cheers

  • same here with hrm run and F5plus. It looks like it is totally random. Last three weeks all seems good. Now my hr during easy running is going up to 170. For treshhold it is ok, but not for easy runs. tTomorrow I will use the wahhoo to check.

  • Can you let me know result.   And were you going to swap to Wahoo strap or watch/computer?   I'll jump on Zwift again tonight and see if I can synch my strap up to watch, Edge and Zwift simulatneously.

  • In the morning I tried to measure my HRV with the EliteHRV App. No Connection to the HRM Run but Fenix found it. So I changed the battery and all was ok. I will test in the evening with an trehhold run if it works again. Than it was the battery in the HRM Run

  • OK, did a zwift ride last night with chest strap and also had Edge 1030 and F5plus all synched up - all went perfectly according to Garmin and Strava stats with everything very consistent and within normal range.   Was sweating loads more than weekend rides so I I'm a bit clueless.  Will be interesting to see if it happens again .. will turn off the F5plus monitoring as thats fairly pointless anyway given its so inaccurate under normal use.

  • OK, this is quite likely a problem with me and not my Garmin straps so thought I'd update this in case ppl are searching  and stumble on this post.  Today I did a Zwift ride with only my Garmin chest strap and Ant connected Win10 PC - had the same problem.   I was sweating so had good contact but its possible the strap is being interfered with by my nipple ring!   Never happened in all the years and straps used but there ya go Laughing
