Large GPS random Spike.

My biggest GPS spike lol.... I very rarely get interference like this.. but something must have messed up my signal....theradio ham who lives behind me maybe?

It wasn't counted as distance... and doesn't seem to effect my stats at all... the software seems to recognise it was a mistake and ignored it... which is nice....

Anyway thought I'd post the pics....

All the best.

Same as you the other day riding my bike y GPS only mode.

  • Yes me to GPS mode only... that's quite a spike you have there..... did it effect your overall stats....it didn't with mine... you have a solid end to your spike while mine seems to fade at the end?...

I do have a guy living behind me who has long range radio equipment (radio ham)it's possible that might have interfered with the GPS maybe?...

    Thanks for sharing.. : -)

  • It is not likely direct interference from a licensed radio amateur.

GPS signals come from satellites that can't transmit at high power and are sensitive to fading. Moisture in the atmosphere, reflections, all contribute to the challenge. A few rogue datapoints are just part of the game now and again. Although I wonder if the software could deal with them in other ways, maybe. ("if sport == running && speed >50 km/h, then make this-unlikely-datapoint = the same as previous datapoint").

BTW It's easily assumed that radio hams can interfere with anything wireless, but these days it's mostly the other way around; powerline adapters for wifi, solar installations, motors, lamp dimmers, LED lighting, garage door openers, all can and often do interfere with the radio hobby. That''s why I rather go running :-)

  • Thanks Twinaxx... Yes the radio ham said the same.. I had a conversation with him.... as you say.. he said its the other way around as well .... he has trouble at certain times of the day getting a signal because of unsuppressed equipment In people's homes... he can detect pretty much which houses the equipments in as well... and what times its turned on and off...in the village....he has to base his hobby around it all.

I'll put it down to just a freak spike as you say..

I'd rather be outside to... Hiking. ;-)

    All the best. : -)
