Fenix 5 Plus Series - No new Software Version

With all the F5+ issues, there is no new software? Is the F5+ dead?

I think it is chargeable, at least some of the features identified by the many owners on this forum.

Some of them already available in lower range Garmin  watches.

What do you think?

Regards

Luis

  • The frequency of updates slows as products mature. It's only been four weeks since the last software update. A beta version of the GPS chipset was released 19 days ago.

Hardly indicative of a dead product.

  • That beta version was posted 5 months ago I think?

  • I don't think the time scale is a problem .... We've seen new software versions take over a month before....

I don't expect any new features .. as Garmin moves on to the next product to quickly....  bit I still expect problems to be addressed in future fixes... at least for two more years?.

It is strange however that APAC devices are running the same software release as Row now.... I haven't seen that before? ...

  • The last update for the Fenix 3 was in May 2019, more than 4 years after launch and the Fenix 5 received an update recently in December. So we can expect some more updates with bugfixes for the 5 plus series.

Garmin will very likely not bring any new functions to "old" watches - a good example for that is the Fenix 2 which was probably just a software-update for the Fenix 1 and nothing of that was brought to the F1! Garmin even blocks the hydration-app in the IQ-store for the Fenix 5 plus.

As my Fenix 5 plus works "rock solid" for the things I use (mostly running, cycling, track-navigation, music, some sensors), I do not have an urgent need for updates.

  • Yes at the moment browsing through the forums.....we seem to have a very stable product.. and in our software version in the 5+ range...there's still little bugs present...and some aspect of navigation taken away on purpose ... (car motorbike)(solution just use another map.)... and training status taken away for hikng on purpose ......and I'm not upgrading any time soon... I usually wait one to two years before even thinking about upgrading....wait for all the bugs to be worked out etc.. I'm really pleased I upgraded to my 5x plus late last year... Its been very stable after my 5x experience.... Fenix 3hr was also superb.

I bet we have a new software version coming in the future...  : - )

  • Hi,

which beta of gps chipset do you mean? Something higher than 2.51? And where can one find it?

    thanks
