Odd "flashlight" type indication when selecting Activity Start button

Since upgrading to v10, I now have this odd behavior when I select the activity START button, or END (exit activity mode) button. My screen will just momentarily turn a very light, translucent white (sort of like flashlight mode). I don't recall it even doing that. I wanted to see if anyone else had seen this. It just flashes, and then goes away. Everything else seems normal.

And it's not the backlight. I have actually seen it more after enabling the backlight with the light button.

**UPDATE**

So just on a whim, I changed my watch face to a Garmin default, and it doesn't do it. So its my watch face... in case anyone else sees it.

  • infocal and half time are the two I have installed at present

  • I have the same effect

It seems to happen when you have a custom watch face and different brightness values for normal/activity display.

  • Which watch face? Need to be specific as otherwise it might be thought that this applies to all CIQ watch faces.

Have you contacted the developer of the watch face?

  • As far as I can tell it applies to all CIQ watch faces I tested while having different brightness values set in the watch. It disappears when you use stock watch faces (or have same brightness values)

Seems like some delay in changing brightness levels when a CIQ watch face is used, rather a firmware problem then watchface specific.

Oh, and it happened also on last betas before 10.0

  • For me, it’s every third party watchface I install. And yes, I did inform the dev of the one I use consistently.

  • Yes I have it on all my installed CIQ watchfaces.....

A flash of blank screen ...... more prominent going back from activities/ apps... I don't see it moving back from a widget.

As already said... It started with the recent software version.

Doesn't effect functionality .....but its a bit weird to see.

  • I saw your comment about different brightness levels. I had not checked my levels until this AM. Mine was set to 20% on both, so I changed to 30% for each, and then 20% Activity and 30% non-activity, and I still have the same issue with same or different levels.

  • Ok, well maybe it is a deeper problem then.

I wrote to Garmin support about three weeks ago, still on beta 9.76 firmware.

They asked me first to film it and then send them the movie.  I now I see that just before Christmas I got an email asking me to send the watch back to them for a replacement.
