Fenix 5x plus voice prompts no longer work

Some days ago the voice prompts (lap stats) disappeared although they are activated. Instead of the voice halting my podcast and announcing my pace the watch vibrates only and shows the values on the dial. How can I reenable the voice output?

Yeah I get that as well occasionally. Try rebooting the phone and then repeat

When this happened to me, the fix I found was to go to the relevant settings part in Garmin Connect Mobile and click the little speaker icon that tests it, and while you do push the volume up on your phone. It seems sometimes they have their volume level set to 0

When I click the speaker icon all I get is the rotating progress circle with the message to use the phone volume controls, however, no matter what I do with the phone level controls, the circle keeps spinning...
