Fenix 5x plus outdoor GPS refresh, turn voice prompts and calibration

Hello Everyone,

I was so excited when I first got my fenix 5x plus and now I’m more and more disappointed. Apprently a lot of it is software related but it still sucks. My stride length was supposed to be on the treadmill .51m which gave me totally wrong times, distances and made the entire Garmin coach useless. Also the calibration after each time didn’t work and made it worse. I updated to the beta that didn’t change much as well. I got used to dealing with it and moved on.

someone suggested run outside a couple times and I did. Now my stride length reads .93 which is better and more accurate.

sadly I cannot get it to work that I get voice prompts turn left or right on my iPhone while I run outside. I don’t even get the option to enable something like that. I read in a couple forums that people do get it.

also they mention to switch your gps update from 3secs or so to 1secs. Also I don’t get an option for that or can even find it in the manual.

Would be great if someone could help me out please. Bought this watch to improve my running but so far nothing has happened because of the software issues that are persistent since 3 months now.

  • I believe that the only options with regard to GPS recording are "smart" or 1 second. You can find this buried under Settings > System > Data Recording.

I don't do this, so I don't know for sure. Turn by turn alerts need to be enabled for navigation. Settings > Navigation > Alerts > Turn Prompts.

    Thank you appreciate that.

I’ll try to navigation prompts later tonight.

Still the treadmill is not working and doesn’t even let me calibrate it now because it does not read the distance remotely right. I’m not certain why it’s that jacked up or is not solved

Thank you, correct I did that several times to no anvail. My stride length is half the length of doing it outside for whatever reason and the treadmill calibration doesn’t work, nor does help.
the latest issue is that I cannot calibrate it because the device thinks I’m running less than 1mi on the treadmill. It’s kinda horrible actually and throwing all the data off

  • When I did my first run on a treatmill with my F5+, I had only half of the distance of the treadmill. You have to run until the watch shows at least 1,5km (~3km on the treadmill), stop the activity and select "save+callibrate". I did this once and since then it works fine. I must admit that I run only in on the treatmill to warm up for strength training, so always at a similar speed. As the stride length can vary a lot (for me between 90cm slow and more than 1,50m during track training), you will have wrong data if you run at different paces.
The Fenix 3 just took the stride length of the last outdoor run, which also is only o.k. if you run at a similar pace.
