Will there be a backcountry skiing app on fenix 5 as the fenix 6 recently got in latest fw?

As the heading says. Backountry skiing app/skimo app. Hope this app finds its way to the fenix 5 also. Fingers crossed Garmin_ODQA

I am using the XC profile but I do XC skiing as well and it goes into the same category, even though I’ve duplicated the profile and renamed it, and that’s not nice for statistics. I also have to manually…

Yes, I'd also like to see the 'Backcountry skiing' activity available on the Fenix 6 made available on the Fenix 5 Plus. It doesn't need any specific new hardware, and it ability to separately track ascents…

Yes I also have always missed a ski touring profile. Would be great if Garmin could provide that for the 5 plus series....

I use the hiking profile but what is not really satisfying..

Given I got this response from Garmin yesterday, don't hold your breath for a BC Ski activity add on:

There isn't a way to track backcountry skiing on a Fenix 5 plus. Unfortunately, backcountry skiing isn't an available activity profile on your model of device

Garmin has no intention to help on this matter, but is there not an app that works on the 5+? A friend says he uses BC-Ski Tracker on his older Garmin, but I do not think it works on the 5+.

Someone posted activity from Garmin 6x - it more or less seems to work on my Fenix 5x (I don't know how exactly it works on 6x).

When I unzip file on my Macbook it says "cannot execute binary file". I try copying it to Garmin Connect upload function and it says "we dont support the file type". I am not sure what you mean when you say "copy to Sports folder on your device"? I am assuming that means I am trying to upload the file via Garmin Connect with the "upload or import activity" function. Any help appreciated.

Since you're on a Mac you'll need to download and use 'Android File Transfer'
Connect fenix to computer
Open Android File Transfer (if you're on Windows you can just open the 'Garmin' removable drive)
Copy the Backcountry_Ski.fit file into Garmin\NEWFILES
Disconnect fenix
On your fenix > Activities > '+'
New 'Backcountry Ski' Activity

Hey, thanks leftride. That seems to have worked. Tested it today and getting the data I want.
