Fenix 5 adds distance to activity when resuming after resume later

On occasion the distance of an activity is extended immediately when resuming after using the "resume later"-function. This has happened both with running and walking activity types. Somewhere between 500 meters and 1 K is added to the activity instantly without reason. I can't see the extended distance on the map, so i's not like the GPS has gotten a signal from somewhere else. I can however see it when watching the activity in distance.mode on the website. The pace for the added distance is super high of course, and it throws all statistics and records off the charts.

Is this a known error?

  • Did you move between pausing the activity and resuming? If so, the added distance is probably the straight-line distance between the pause and resume points. That's consistent with the high "pace" for added segment. Even if you didn't move, there would be some difference in the two GPS-derived locations, especially if a substantial amount of time has passed. However, 500 to 1K m is way more than I'd expect in the latter case.

This is not to say that the behavior is correct. Although I'd be hard-put to figure out how else to handle the case where you actually moved.

  • Hi. No, I did not move and there's no tracking of the added distance in the map at all.
