HRM new models

Hello all

I think that most of us would agree that the HRM straps are not good quality products (or good value for money), as they last less than a year in most of the cases. I was wondering if anyone knows if Garmin would update their straps with new more robust models (e.g., real water proof tech, better electrodes, etc) anytime soon.

Thanks

What are you basing this statement on?

My HRM-Run is closing in on 2 years, and apart from a battery change it's still as good as new from what I can see.

  • My HRM Run died 4 weeks ago. Got a new one via RMA. It was around 22 Month old. Used it 4 to 5 Runs a week.

I base this opinion on the other users' observations in this forum, my friends and other people that I know, as well as my own experience.

  • My HRM-run ist just 9 months old and looks like new, as it should. If you are worried about the strap, buy the older HRM. Mine is 4 years old and I replaced the strap after 3 years with a cheap one (10€ from Amazon). Still works fine and I use it for cycling since I own the HRM run

  • Okay, so I guess it's just that I don't share your observations and haven't picked up that it is the general opinion that these things lasts less than a year.

Anyway, to answer you question: No I haven't seen any rumours about new models, and generally Garmin doesn't really tend to give out any information before it's suddenly launched.

What do you mean by real water proof tech by the way - The HRM Run/Tri/Swim are already rated for swimming, do you want to use it for diving?

Indeed Tri and Swim may be fine for swimming. With the HRM-run though you sweat one time and condensation builds inside the electronics. What kind of technology in 2020 allows condensation to occur in such simple electronics? My strap is gone after 6 months only. I will try another brand. Any suggestions?

  • HRM Run, Tri and Swim all have the same rating: 5 ATM. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/waterrating

If your HRM Run was broken by sweat after just one single use, there must have been something wrong with it from the start. I have used my HRM-Run in all sorts of weather, and with a lot of sweating for almost two years, and it is still going strong. I even leave it for a couple of hours in hot water with a small amount of mild detergent for cleaning.

If you want to check out alternatives from other brands, this might be a good place to start:
