Fenix 5X plus - Version 9.00 & iOS 13

I'm having endless issues with syncing. When I try sync the watch on the app it starts then just fails, and brings up a red exclamation icon saying "Sync Failed" if you tap Sync Now, it still fails.

Something not right, and I don't know if it is iOS 13 (ver 13.1.3) or the watch version. I have unpaired and repaired with no luck at all!

The only way I can sync now is if I plug it into my PC and use Garmin Express

Any ideas on how to fix this, very annoying, issue?

  • Connect App Update is out so lets see if it'll help ;-)

  • Nope, still the same issues.

Yesterday i run a marathon and sync didn't work even over wifi -sync failed. I did the synchronization over the cable sucessfully.

I hate when so expencive watch doesnt work and its completely unreliable.

Even after a hard restart, my watch wouldn't record distance data and would lock up when Saving an activity.  So I did a full reset to factory defaults.  I also upgraded to iOS 13.2 today as well as got the recent GC update.

After all that, I have my first wireless sync in days and days.  Don't know if it will last, but I was able to download CIQ apps, I see weather data, and I even activated Spotify (which I had never tried to do before).

Getting my watch to pair at all was a little bit of an adventure in app restarts and retries, so I'm not expecting this to last.

Updated to the latest Connect App version and  iOS 13.2  aswell.

However when scrolling to the weather widget, the watch still tells me that a connection to the mobile app is necessary (although the watch shows connected in bluetooth and the app is running in the background)!

Sorry, but these developers really don't know what they are doing...

  • Have to restart my watch if I want it to sync via BT. Syncing via wifi is annoying too as there's no quick & easy way to get to it. :/

  • Add WiFi to your Controls page and you are able to do a WiFi-sync with only two button-presses.

  • Good tip. Done and done.

  • So this morning I woke up, tried to do the sync "Sync already in progress". This error came up regardless of whether I tried the "sync" or "Wifi" options on the watch itself.

5 minutes later "sync already in progress".

10 minutes later "sync already in progress".

It looks like overnight a sync starts, gets stuck, and I need to interrupt it. I've been doing so by rebooting my watch (did that this morning out of habit). I'll try just toggling bluetooth on my watch tomorrow morning if/when it happens.

Now that I've done a full reset and re-paired and whatnot, I can get wifi sync to work if i turn bluetooth off on my phone.  That would NOT work until I did the full reset, but that was painful for many reasons (forgot I'd lose all my bike sensors, several of which were configured with wheelsize that I've now lost and will have to re-do) so consider whether it's worth it before you do that on your watch.

Had the exact same issue just yesterday.

    • Looks like Garmin finally totally lost control over their software.
