Fenix 5X plus - Version 9.00 & iOS 13

I'm having endless issues with syncing. When I try sync the watch on the app it starts then just fails, and brings up a red exclamation icon saying "Sync Failed" if you tap Sync Now, it still fails.

Something not right, and I don't know if it is iOS 13 (ver 13.1.3) or the watch version. I have unpaired and repaired with no luck at all!

The only way I can sync now is if I plug it into my PC and use Garmin Express

Any ideas on how to fix this, very annoying, issue?

It's seeming likely to me that there is a problem with the Connect App *and* a problem with 9.0 in the wifi sync.  AFAIK, wifi sync shouldn't rely on GC in any way, but my watch will not sync via wifi nor via the app.  Initially I assumed that meant it was a problem with the watch, but since this seems to be a problem for non-Fenix users, too, it's probably both things at the same time.

    NICE JOB GARMIN!

Actually, I think someone on the GC thread over in that forum figured out the wifi thing.  Apparently, and I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS YET (and won't until tomorrow), wifi syncing will work if you completely disconnect Bluetooth from the phone.  THAT is not something I tried yet, but a couple people report that this does make wifi sync work.It surprises me that a wifi sync will still hit the phone first if connected, but apparently it does and whatever is broken on the app can break wifi sync if you let it.

I have the same problem. My Fenix 5x plus worked perfectly until update to firmware 9.0 and IOS 13. Now it connects sometimes, when connected it syncs really slow. Also I have problem with my airpods disconnecting and won’t connect again. Battery drains faster that previous firmwares

  • Watch refuses to automatically connect to the iPhone from time to time.

About 50% of the time, notifications of messages or emails are not signaled on the watch!

The interesting thing that although the watch did not vibrate, the messages are SOMETIMES AT LEAST shown in the message list.

    A nightmare of unreliability.

  • I too am having issues syncing since a few days back - sometimes it does sync, but I keep having to close the app, switch bluetooth off and on, try to sync many times in a row until it works.

It seems to be getting worse each day.

Today, it won't sync at all - IOS connect app is spinning on about 60% complete but just sits there indefinitely.

It seemed to be working fine until a few days back which probably conincides with the last update to the IOS connect app and/or IOS13?

I have lost connection too. No sync and no live track.
what the garmin R&D is doing????

it’s like Apple, the update are. Ot tested before the release. Bug, bug, patch, and no communication.

  • I’m having the same issue since latest update.  Of course I have tried everything Garmin suggest, but sometimes the watch will not sync to the phone or over WiFi.  Yesterday I turned off WiFi and it seemed to sync after that, but it’s too early to know if that will carry on working or not.

It’s very frustrating, it was working perfectly a month ago.

  • only one thing I did, reboot my phone and my watch but it seems to work now! Will report back if something changes :-)

I’ve tried literally everything. Even turning my phone completely off did not let WiFi work. Nothing works to sync other than the wire.

insult to injury: I also lost a nearly three hour run’s data yesterday. Didn’t notice until nearly two hours in that while the timer was running, the distance still said zero. So when I stopped the activity and tried to save, the watch locked up on the Saving screen for 15 minutes before I rebooted it. Then no event showed up in history. Sigh.

  • Yes, it is very annoying , I am having similar issues with my wife’s Vivoactive 3.  I need to set aside 30mins after every activity to get either watch to sync.  I really hope Garmin are aware and are working on a fix.  I suspect it is an iOS related issue, frustrating none the less.
