Fenix 5X plus - Version 9.00 & iOS 13

I'm having endless issues with syncing. When I try sync the watch on the app it starts then just fails, and brings up a red exclamation icon saying "Sync Failed" if you tap Sync Now, it still fails.

Something not right, and I don't know if it is iOS 13 (ver 13.1.3) or the watch version. I have unpaired and repaired with no luck at all!

The only way I can sync now is if I plug it into my PC and use Garmin Express

Any ideas on how to fix this, very annoying, issue?

Since 9.0 hit, I haven't been able to sync wirelessly in any way.  I get the same behavior in GC via BT even though I am seeing HR and step data.  Pretty sure that's because BLE is working, but full BT is not.  I've power cycled the watch, the phone, reinstalled GC, re-paired with BT, etc.  I've removed my wifi networks and re-added them and still it won't sync via wifi, either.  The only way I can sync right now is to plug in to my laptop via Garmin Express.  This is maddening.

I also just noticed that you can't email support any longer.  The only options are to call or "chat", but so far "chat" has said all folks are busy and to "reload the page and try again."  SERIOUSLY?  THIS IS THE BEST YOU CAN DO?  How the hell is having only synchronous communication any better for ANYONE, us or GARMIN?

I've bought every Fenix model, the highest end version, since the first Fenix was released on the first day.  I went with a smaller retailer this time and missed out on the first batch of Solars, so I'm also stuck waiting until at least November now for one of those, too.  This is serious crap.  If they know that a LOT of people are having sync issues, why not own it and put something up letting us know they know and are working on it?  Oh, right, because Garmin sucks at interfacing with customers.

  • Your final line is the point. It’s why the Fenix 5+ is likely to be my last Garmin device, after buying many in the past decade or so (not as many as you it seems!).

Things go wrong. it happens. People, and companies, make mistakes and in software that means bugs. That’s forgivable. What’s not forgivable is the disdain Garmin treats its customers with. There is clearly an issue, but no acknowledgement from Garmin.

Not on Twitter where every response is to question the customer like they’re the first to report it. Not their support team who told me yesterday that “this issue has not been reported” by anyone else. Not on here, where their representatives (who were not slow to blame Apple a few weeks ago for the notifications issues) have seemingly fled. They’ve got a captive audience of their most engaged customers on here, with whom they could work to help them fix issues but instead they selectively hit and run on the easy "it’s not our fault” posts and that’s it.

Its abysmal and turns a minor nuisance into major dissatisfaction. And it’s just the latest in a string of such poor experiences and so they’ve lost at least one repeat customer. They did the hard part, they make great devices for which (as far as watches go, Wahoo have caught up on bike computers) there isn’t really a competitive option. But they’ve screwed the easy bit, treat your customers with respect and appreciation; own your mistakes and do your best to fix them.

  • OK guys, mine just synced can't tell why I didn't change anything from yesterday!

  • Strangely enough mine also synced over Bluetooh this morning after my swim. I still had to turn the bluetooth off and on and then it worked. Not sure if it is a "smaller" workout than the previous workout ?

Very strange as I didn't change anything either...

  • Same issues here. Garmin support webchat doesn’t work. This is clearly a known issue. Why not just apologise and say you’re working on a fix?

  • Same issue here.

So, my fenix 5 plus was working fine running 7.10 with iOS 13.1.3
    Better than ever.
I resisted the urge to update for a good while because I’ve found Garmin updates cause problems every time.

Finally gave in and updated to 9.0 a few days ago.

    Terrible mistake.

My watch now absolutely REFUSES to sync with Garmin connect on my iPhone XR (iOS 13.1.3)

I’ve trying everything on the Garmin trouble shooting pages and nothing. “Sync failed - Device connection error”

This is clearly a known issue. Would it really be so hard to say “sorry, we’re working on a fix”? Garmin support webchat is broken and there is now no option to email them

  • When i done the update, my fenix 5x plus refuse to sync. I have deleted the app, and after reinstalled, the watch has been reconfigured. The sync has been done and live track works. Sometime after sport session, my watch is connected by BT on my phone but refuse to sync. So I kill the app and when I open again it, the sync works.
    maybe can help you. :)

I've tried all of that multiple times.  Nothing works for me.

  • It’s an issue with the latest version of the Connect app. Garmin have finally acknowledged to another user that they’ve been aware of it since the weekend.
