I fully understand your feelings. I had the same with other issues. Contact the Garmin support and insist that they should change the device.
That company become more and more a joke. Where do they find all the super programmer’s. At Boing ?
Of course you do. Me too. We payed a lot of money for a watch which isn't doing what they promised. Nothing more disappointing like Garmin. And they don't care. They got their money.

Support agreed that my F5+ has a defect and they are ready to replace the item.
Let us please know how your refurbished replacement unit is doing then.
same here. started approx. week ago. watch is 7 months old. not sure if the problem is related to the 9.00 version of the firmware. Did a master-reset (https://www.hardreset.info/devices/garmin/garmin-fenix-5-plus/hardreset-third-method/) yesterday. Didn't change much. Figured that master reset doesn't delete third party maps like openstreetmap .img files, so I deleted my openstreetmap maps now as well, charging my watch and try it again. If that doesn't help either I'm going to contact Garmin support and asking for a repair / replacement.
What is the “normal” resting battery consumption of the Fenix 5 plus - Smartwatch mode, no watchfaces, notifications on?
I have an RMAd unit and according to the battery widget, I get 1,2% per hour.
The spec for Fenix 5 Plus says UP TO 12 days in smartwatch mode, which should translate to approximately 0,35% per hour.
(12 days * 24 hours = 288 hours, 100% / 288 hours = 0,3472)
I guess 2 days is underways up to 12 days....lol
In the 9.71 beta zip is a Firmware backdate file which has a version number 9.10.... With this I am down from 1.4%/h to 0.9%/h - Full master reset after install.
I guess it is worth a try.
Like i said in the beta thread , now it’s on time Garmin take some proper action. But they not even answer mail. I am bored of beeing a beta tester for Garmin. Maybe a good idea would be to get the previous product work before realeasing 10 new. I ***.
I've had my 5X+ since April and none of the updates have had negative impact on battery life, including 9.0. My watch loses around 6% per day or 0.25% per hour on average, including 60-90 minutes per day of indoor training with HRM, power meter, cadence and speed sensors connected.
The only notable action I've taken to reduce battery drain is to disable Pulse Ox monitoring, but I turned that off after the first week or two of ownership. No change to usage patterns since then.
EDIT : Last night I charged my watch to 85% and took it off charge at 18:45 GMT. Tonight it was showing 83% remaining, 23.5 hours later. It is now 20:15, so 26.5 hours since charging and it has dropped to 82% some time in the last couple of hours. I have not recorded any training in that time, so purely smart watch, but that's only just a 3% drop in one full day of operation.
If 9.0 has a battery problem it must be under some specific condition of operation that I do not experience. I read lots of problems for iOS 13 users and Spotify users. I use neither. Maybe the problem lies there, or something along those lines, rather than with 9.0 as a whole.
Same issue with v9. My battery live is the the half
