2% battery for 14 hours - WOW Garmin has outdone itself again

My watch is on fw 8.40 and lost only 2% battery in 14h smartwatch mode!

That's amazing bad software again - thanks Garmin!

  • Ok, so since somebody from the forum contacted me asking for a troubleshoot (!?) i can just say:

The watch has NO additional watchfaces installed.

NO music or additional maps are installed.

The watch was NOT used other than in smartwatch mode with a view notifications received and otherwise not used.

Normally it drained 8% a day.

There is nothing more to debug and say than  this product it's simply totally unreliable and unpredictable.

  • So you're complaining... because your battery life has gotten better?   I've noticed on v9 that my battery has gotten much better than it had been as well, for both workouts and just hanging out in smartwatch mode.

I fear you simply didn't get the point Slight smile

  • Nah, I get it, was just being a bit cheeky in my response.  No, seriously, my battery life has gotten better over a couple charge cycles now.  I'm not seeing anything insane like just 2% burn in a day, but, overall it has gotten better.  You know what else I noticed?  My WiFi actually works 100% of the time now.  In the handful of Garmins I've owned with WiFi, none of them have ever reliably connected to my Synology router.  They would from time to time when they felt like it, but typically, they'd just connect to my phone and do the upload.  Now, even when I'm approaching my house after a run, it will zap the run over WiFi before even opening the door!  That's crazy.  It's happened on every activity I've done since installing 9.0, so pretty sure it's not a fluke.

I think the one thing that still has to be fixed on this watch before I'm totally happy with the functionality is the GPS stuff.  The current pace has always been pretty jacked; the GPS chipset 2.51 beta is supposed to fix this, but it's been a month now and there's been no final GPS update.  Looking forward to that one.

  • I think the only way to really fix distance and pace is to use a footpod (I'd recommend a RunScribe or Stryd and not the Garmin version). I run trails through trees and have perfect pace now using a foot pod vs. completely wonky results using GPS only.

  • It's funny you mention that - I have a Stryd coming tomorrow.   My wife and I have done a ton of trail running this year - we just did a 25k last weekend and we both finished about at 14.1; she has a 935.   So I got the Stryd, hoping it gives us more accuracy in the woods.  And for the price, it had better do a lot more!  Laughing
