Why do I see MAP in POOL SWIMMING activity? (image inside)

Hi fellow garmin users,

quick question that I couldn't find an answer to in any other place: why do I see a map in my "pool swim" activity?

the pool is indoors and the position on the map is totally wrong (it's actually closer to where I ran the day before).

any thoughts? (firmware still 8.40 if it matters...)

    The map does not make much sense indeed, apparently GC always shows a map.

    GPS is not always on, only with certain activities. Consequently, for an activitity that does not use GPS, it uses the last known location, in this case the last run.

    Errh, I am missing the condition that leads to the "consequently" part.

    There is no need for showing a map for an indoor activity. So the lack of GPS information cannot be seen as a valid reason for using GPS information from another activity.

    Also, I can add that I have several indoor activities logged (including pool swims with an older firmware). None of them show a map. So this is not Garmin standard behaviour for indoor activities.

    Indeed, not for all indoor activities a maps is shown, for recent pool swims it does.

    Agreed, there is no need to show a map, apparently a bug somewhere introduced in a recent change. But given that it wants to show a map for an activity that did not use GPS, the consequence is that it used the last known location.

    As Allen said......I don't get a map or map point for an indoor pool swim using my 5x plus.... as I just tested it for you.

    Interesting that it is showing a map point for some?

    For me, it started with pool swims sometime between 26 April and 7 May, since then every pool swim has a map on Garmin Connect on the web site. showing the location of the previous activitity. There has not been an upgrade to the watch firmware in between those days, so it must be something in GC Mobile (Android for me) or on the Garmin servers.

    Me too. Exactly the same conditions. Around the same time. Maybe a bit earlier. And I have a Forerunner 935

    If it turns out the map is going to show the last known GPS location (for an indoor activity), it would be useful if you could save it after manually drag / zooming the map to the correct location.  At least it would then add value to the (otherwise useless) map panel.  I will give this feedback to the developers.
