Version 9.0 impressions

I'd love to be able to give mine, but I'm not part of the intial rollout.  Rolling eyes

Anyone notice anything good, bad, indifferent?  My watch actually crashed this AM when I took it off to shower.  The light stayed stuck on, and turned off when I picked it up... but then it was completely frozen.   I had to hold the Light button for a good 10 seconds until it shut off.  It seems fine now, but I've never seen this behavior before; I have a 25k trail race on Saturday, and I won't be happy if it locks up during it!!  It's never locked up before so I'm hopeful it was a one and done.  There was also MASSIVE battery drain while it was locked up; it lost about 20% battery life in an hour.

Otherwise, thrilled with the watch; I'm hoping 9.0 does completely fix iOS notifications sometimes not appearing.  8.4 was a huge improvement, but still, I went from having to toggle my Bluetooth twice a day to once every other day.

  • Do you NEVER have something positive to say ?

  • Is through Garmin Express the only way to get the production firmware or is a download and load onto the watch, like done with the betas, also an option. If the latter, where could I find the download site?

    TIA!

  • You can use Garmin Express or just go into the WiFi setting on your watch, and assuming you have a WiFi network setup, connect to it.  It will download the firmware once you connect.

  • Thanks rtpenra. I have both: GE and WiFi, but so far no luck for me. I am in the Midwest US.

I've had several runs with 9.0 so far. The issues that plagued 8.4 such as the hit or miss pairing with the HRM Run and poor media player performance (stuttering playing of Spotify when the watch was performing complex calculations) seem to mostly be fixed.

    No complaints so far.

No, because sadly i donˋt need to install it to know that.

It doesn't occur frequently thankfully, but every so often I'll come across someone who has absolutely nothing of benefit to contribute to a group. You sir, are one of those special people.

If you want to be a valued of member of this group (or just one whose posts are even considered), perhaps try offering something of value in your responses. Do a little trouble shooting and definine the exact scenarios where functionality is failing for you. Blanket statements are useless, and statements like "I don't need to try it to know it won't work" are worse than useless.

I agree.  I use to refer to my 235 as the Failure 235 and that got that one on track, so anything is possible.  Relaxed

  • and statements like "I don't need to try it to know it won't work" are worse than useless.

...and hilarious when the same person later writes "You come to that conclusion after only 1 day of usage?".

Apparently 0 days of usage beats 1 day of usage...

  • Not sure how many people still connect their watches to a computer to do all the syncing, but I did discover that with V9 I can sync my iTunes playlists from my Mac now, which I had not been able to do beforehand, and I believe it had been an issue for ages!!

Otherwise I haven't had any real issues with V9 on my 5X+, though last nights run did shorten one km stretch by about 2.5 mins, but that's happened before on my Suunto, so I'll just re-run that route another time to make sure it was a one off GPS glitch.
