Mark /smudge on sapphire screen that won't come off

Hi,

I noticed this about a week after getting my garmin. It's only observable at certain angles so I have a feeling it was always there. It kind of bugs me as I think it will affect the resale value when I want to upgrade..

Anyone have an idea of what it might be? It really doesn't look like a physical imperfection like a scratch. It looks like a smudge or a defect with a coating on the screen (I'm not sure if there is a coating?). The photo below is the best I could do to capture. Sorry about the dust, it was hard enough capturing the right angle for the smudge to appear.

Just wait until you put the first scratches and dents in the bezel... and you will.

  • Not sure... Personally, I have some dents and scratches in the bezel, but seeing the still scratch free sapphire is very nice.

  • Can you feel the difference in the crystal with you finger?..

If not.. . could it be s smudge on the inside?.....a manufacturing fault during assembly?

I personally have scratched up my fenix 3hr glass and bezel. ...badly scratched a Fenix 5x bezel......with no damage to the crystal.... my 5x plus also has no scratches on the crystal... (so far) it is hard to scratch..... I'd imagine even harder to smudge : - )

  • I appear to have this on my 6 but much larger. Looks almost as if there’s a protective layer that I’ve rubbed off somehow.

Has yours cleared up, gotten worse, or the same?

  • If you don’t believe it’s any thing that you’ve done, that you believe it to be a manufacturing defect, contact Garmin Support or, better still if you can, take it back from whence you bought it and talk to them..

I can't feel any difference on the crystal. Completely smooth..

The mark has remained the same. It has been 5 months since I bought it and no change for better or worse. When I first noticed I kind of convinced myself to live with it. Not sure that 5 months in the store or Garmin will take well to my complaint but maybe I'll give it a shot.

  • Could it be a flaw in the homegrown crystal?... Good luck contacting Garmin..... hope to hear how you get on..

I have the exact problem i think...and ur right it doesnt go away..i posted abt it and my fenix 6 screen is full of these marks..check out my post abt it...these will be much more joticable when u turn off and watch and observe the screen in daylight...the coating is probably coming off..really broke my heart and now ay to fix it..mine seem like drop marks on the inside of the screen that have dried up..
