Garmin Pay not detected by point of sale terminal

Hi everyone

My brand new Fenix 5s plus is not being detected by the point of sale terminal at all.

I have configured the wallet correctly, my card is shown on the Wallet app when I launch it.

The card was correctly activated.

The watch is not detected by the POS terminal. Each time this has happened, I was able to pull my iPhone and pay quickly using Apple Pay with the same card without an issue. So it is not the terminal.

I have also tried multiple stores to see if it is isolated to a single store, but it is not. It flat out does not work.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

Oh, I have reset the watch, reset the wallet, and deleted and reinstalled the card.

Thanks

  • In the US, I find some retailers support GP, some don't but do support Apple pay.

It's really up to the payment processing system used.  And generally, the folks that work in the place don't know what's supported.

One place that it seems supports GP world wide in McDonalds, so that might be a good place to try

  • Thanks

I will give that a try. I reset the watch completely last night and then added a different credit card again. I will try tomorrow at Starbucks to see if it works.

Strangely, my Fitbit IONIC that I believe also uses FitPay had no issues at any of the locations where Garmin is not working.

  • Defective hardware was my problem. Watch is going back to Garmin.

I bought a 945 from REI and Garmin Pay works like a charm. They also had the fenix 6 pro but 945 fit my wrists better.

  • We have a defective Vivoactive 3 as well. Check with an Android card reader, but careful what app you use. ;)

  • Cool.  I was going to say I use mine at Starbucks and McD for coffee in the morning.  Never a problem.

Glad you got it resolved....with a sweet upgrade :)
