Respiration rate, sweat loss and hydration tracking

Hi,

as the fenix 5 plus series should provide all the necessary hardware:

Can we expect to see respiration rate, sweat loss and hydration tracking in an upcoming software update?

I mean, the fenix 5 plus series is not that old and all these three features are really nice!

My question is also backed by the fact that I already can track my hydration in the Garmin app....

Thanks!

The response I had from Garmin was this

"I can certainly understand your frustrations. While nothing has been announced one way or another on the fēnix 5 Plus series getting some of the newer features, we do plan on continuing to support and assist with it. If you'd like to see those features added, I recommend sending our design team a formal request at this link:

Do I understand this statement correctly:

Even Garmin has nothing announced about adding the new features, they will add them in upcoming software updates??

To what the "it"  in "we do plan on continuing to support and assist with it" is referring to?

Basically, your guess is as good as mine. But if you contact them direct, rather than here, you may get a chance to bend their ear a little. The it in this case is the 5 plus series

Ok, thank you for the clarification.

I think i will contact them via the idea form.

  • Fenix 3 provide the necessery hardware but, it doesn't have many Fenix 5 features! So get used to seeing the Fenix 6 features on Fenix 6 watches, unless we make a good post bombing on that ideas page...

In my opinion, it is a difficult trade off Garmin has to made when using such a software policy. In the best case for the user, Garmin will simply have one software base providing all the features and the hardware of the device is deciding on which features it can use. On the other hand, Garmin has a different software for each device providing new features only on new devices irrespective of the capabilities of older devices.

Garmin is kind of in the middle of both policies often leading to a difficult decision which device should have which feature. I can understand, that this could lead to increasing sales but it can also have adverse effects like it is in this case here.

I would be happy, if Garmin would apply the first policy, however, I can also understand that really old models may not get all the new features. NEVERTHELESS, in this case here (fenix 5 Plus / fenix 6), the temporal distance between the models is not that large and it is kind of unfair in my opinion when not providing the new features to the fenix 5 Plus series!

By the way, I have written Garmin a message via the idea form.
