Software Update - 8.40

Recieved the update this morning and installed it.

Let's see how this one is going to run.

I don't see the assistant (or I can't find it) but yeah I got the PacePro thing too. I'm contacted Garin for some clarification so perhaps it may pour oil on troubled waters here. As a fellow 5x+ owner, I'm wondering what use the SPO2 sensor is when it seemingly is totally underused.

Scratch that  - I have assistant too

  • I have zero issues with 8.40 and HR tracking during walks is fixed now.

    Good job Team Garmin.

I have seen this comment from you several times now, but you are always just hinting at some problem without explaining what the problem is.

So what is the problem with SPO2?

My only problem with it is that it shouldn't run automatically. There is a protocol for how the person should behave during SPO2 testing, and this protocol obviously will not be followed in an automatic test. So automatic tests are in my opinion nothing but false data and battery consumption.

It has an associated widget, it takes readings and thats it. It doesn't tie in to any other part of the fitness ecosystem. Agreed about automatic tests, but since Garmin are talking a lot about acclimatization with recent updates - it seems odd we have a SPO2 sensor that isn't better integrated.

Oh sleep. Thats the only part it seems tied into.

No other part of the system uses it. Not even (as an example) a defined procedure where readings are taken. It does seem to me to be a hardware addition to bump up the stats (ok, bad pun!) with little thought as to integrating it further

Those are very valid points. But when reading your other posts, those points are not very clear to the reader.

So if anyone from Garmin by accident is reading your other posts, you have probably missed an opportunity to cause some change.

Oh I've submitted feedback ;) Just hope between that, and this, perhaps some clarity will be forthcoming.

  • I use Galileo which works fine, after 6 weeks with the F5+ I would say that especially unter difficult conditions (dense woods, slight rain), the tracking is better than with my Fenix 3, no "drunken runner" so far. As Sensors I use HRM run, Tempe and the Garmin footpod (which delivers better current pace as long as I run a quite constant pace).

Allan makes a good point here AJRykala. I too read the other post and was wondering what you were alluding to.
