Fenix 5x plus: No GPS

I recently purchased the fenix 5x plus and the GPS doesn't seem to be working properly. My settings say that I'm on GPS 2.50. My watch face says "NO GPS" and when I go into navagate it show that I'm in Taiwan, I live in Minnesota...

My last fenix 5 plus automatically connected to my location without any issues but I can't seem to figure out the 5x plus. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried getting a GPS fix with an activity other than navigate?  When you go into settings, does it show your CPE (it may show as EPO on your watch.  I'm not certain) as being current?  If not, try connecting to Express on your computer and sync your watch.  Disconnect and try a hard reset. (hold the power button for 15 secs until the watch reboots).  Then go outside and select the run activity.  If you get a successful GPS connection, leave the watch there for about 20 mins to get a good GPS soak.  If this doesn't work, I suggest you contact support.

  • Where exactly does it say "No GPS"? You say the watch face says that, but usually the watch face would not show GPS information.

I am wondering if the message means that the GPS is disabled in the settings.

  • That's actually kind of common with CIQ watchfaces that need a location for things like sunrise/sunset and weather.

A CIQ can't start GPS, but it needs a fairly current location fro the last activity.

What you do is start something like "run" and wait until you get a GPS fix and then return to the watchface.  If that doesn't work, while in the run activity, log press "up", and go to Settings>watchface, but in that case, use an activity where you aren't using CIQ data fields (it's a memory thing)

I use the 'Sync time with GPS' function you can add as a control. That seems to work well.

  • My Garmin Fenic 5x GPS stopped working and watch has been sent in for repairs. Feedback from Garmin is that it can’t be fixed and I have to buy a second hand one for 300$. Just used it for running. Therefore if only lasted 3 1/2 years. I think it will be better to rather purchase a SUUNTO with a 5 year warranty in the future.

  • That's really bad luck! I had the same with my Fenix 1 which froze after 3 years and couldn't be reactivated, whereas my Fenix 3 worked like new after 5 years ( my F5 plus is now 3 years old and I keep fingers crossed).

I just checked, with a bit of luck you can get used Fenix 5 (x) Plus around 250€, at least here in Germany.

  • Just checked the Suunto Website. For watches there is a 2 years warranty, which is the legal minimum!
