5+ Restarting When Calculating "Round-Trip Course

Selecting a running activity and then trying to generate a round-trip course is causing my watch to restart 100% of the time.

I'm able to select a distance for the course. It will go to the "calculating" screen. Then it restarts after a few seconds. 100% of the time. I can't seem to use the feature at all. I have used the feature in the past without problems, but it appears to be broken for me now.

I don't know if this is a related issue, but I also tried loading a course downloaded onto the watch from Garmin Connect. It would hang at the "calculating" screen when attempting to generate turn-by-turn directions (i.e., routing using the "Use Map" option). In this case, the watch would not restart, but it would just never progress past trying to calculate, even after waiting up to 5-10 minutes for 6-mile course.

I'm on the latest firmware and maps.

Anyone else see similar issues before? Could it be due to memory problems?

Thats quite an old f/w version - do a software update - we're up to 8.4 at the moment. See if that helps.

  • Well, I was never using any of the beta software, but I must have had this bug. I noticed this seemed to be addressed in the software released notes for update 8.40 ("Fixed an issue where the device would crash when creating a round trip route"). Installed the update yesterday and tried to create a round-trip course again and it worked flawlessly!

So I guess we can chalk this one up to a bug and consider it resolved. Thanks everyone for all the help and troubleshooting ideas!

Glad it’s working that’s one of my favourite features so when it broke I was devastated.
