I’ve had the Garmin Fenix 5S+ for almost 9 months now, and I notice that every 3 or 4 months, the device just stops working “well”. I solve most of these issues by performing a reset to default settings from the System part of the menu. And then everything seems to work again after that.
For example, the last two resets that I’ve had to do were related to the numbers being reported by the HR optical sensor during rest. I would often get “Measuring” but it would never detect the HR. Or it would either flash 215 bpm or 0 bpm and then go back to “Measuring.”
Clearly my HR was neither number!
i thought it was perhaps the optically HR sensor being dirty, so I cleaned that and my wrist as well, worried that skin grime or lotion maybe causing an inaccurate reading. That didn’t fix the issue. So I decided to do a reset - and then everything now works perfectly.
I don’t understand though - for a $950 CAD device, why would I need to reset this thing once every 2-3 months? It feels like the sensor or the computer Algo that interprets the HR readings decided to get corrupted and the only way to fix it was a reset to default settings.
this is so inconvenient - it erases all of your settings, such as data screens, widget order, etc.
I am about done with this device...
