F5+ stopped sync'ing, Failed to re-pair, and BT icon not showing in Settings

I noticed that my Fenix 5+ 7.60 Stopped syncing. I went through the suggested Troubleshooting  steps and after factory resetting the watch I am no longer seeing the BT setting icon and it will not pair with Pixel 2 XL (Android 9 Build PQ3A.190801.002).  Now what?

  • Can you explain what you’ve done so far so that people’s responses aren’t redundant?

One thought - have you put Garmin Connect in Manual Battery optimisation? I ask as on my wife's Huawei you have to whitelist the app to stop the power management in Android from continually killing GC and that creates sync issues...

  • I have exactly the same problem (Pixel 2 XL & 7.60). I've restarted the phone, restarted the watch, removed device from app with no luck. When pairing it picks up the watch, but hangs on the completing setup and finally says pairing failed.

    Haven't found a solution yet.

  • I had similar problem but with my Edge830. It stopped syncing with GC one day (Samsung SG7Edge, 3.57beta). I checked GC and it reported Edge830 as "registered" (in Garmin Cloud or whatsoever) but not connected. I managed to reconnect successfully, without any resets. I noticed that two steps had to be performed to reconnect/re-pair Garmin device and Garmin Connect for Android:

    1. Device is disconnected state but reported as present in Garmin cloud.
    2. Remove device from BT (phone BT settings).
    3. Remove pairing on the device itself.
    4. Re-pair device by performing suggested action (pairing) for device in Garmin Connect.

After that pairing should succeed (still it triggers the configuration wizard but defaults are ok).

    EDITED:

    steps corrected

  • Thanks macnuts. Removing it from my phone's previously paired devices and then paired again did the job. Much appreciated!

  • This happened to me too today with OnePlus 7 Pro and this helped. Thanks.

No need to remove from Qarmin Connect which I think I did previously and then needed to re-add all payment cards.

  • This is something I thought was happening just in the Android Q Beta, but it looks like it's happening to others.

On Android Q it happens every 5-10 days, and is always preceeded by the Fenix 5X Plus showing up in Bluetooth Devices as just a string of numbers.

  • Indeed, corrected now.
