fenix 5s+ battery consumption

HI,

the battery consumption of my f5s+ is much to high. I monitored some activities in the past:

1 hour activity consumes abozt 25% power. I resetted my watch and I only use the Garmin standard watch face and the standard pages during activities (running only)

Over night (6pm - 8am) is has lost another 12%.

As I want to train for a marathon this watch does not help me. The time I need for the 42k will be between 4:15h and 4:30h. The marketing slides say the battery will take up to 14 hours of activity.

Do you have any idea what to change ?

Does anybody has similar consumption values?

How does the UltraTrac mode work? Does is increase the battery lifetime sinificant? Is this for storing the values only or do you see any digference during the activity?

Thanks, Andreas

  • I don't  have any  answers, but wanted to tell you I'm in the same boat with my  5s+  . My  battery  drained from 100% to 18% in 5 hours and 30 minutes.  I was running GPS only.  This is not acceptable as I am spending entire days in the mountains and need something that's  going to last at least 10 hours.  I contacted Garmin support and at first they said the battery  sounded damaged and offered to replace the watch for me.  Then I got an email from a different Garmin rep who told me that although I *could* replace the watch (because that  option was already offered  to me), this was pretty much what I can expect.  With "perfect" performance I could get up  to 11 hours, but basically  that never happens.  It was suggested that I disable the wrist heart rate or disconnect it from my phone to save battery or lastly use ultratrac.  Honestly, this is not ok with me.  I might try to return it and either get a larger version of the Fenix or  go with Suunto.

  • That's your best option. The 5S+ under ideal conditions might get 11 hours but I would not bet my house on it. Better off with a 5+ or the 5X+ if you want to get beyond 10 hours.

Your 5S+ should be plenty to get you through a marathon unless you have lots of other 'stuff' draining the battery. Battery specs suggest up to 11 hours GPS and here rate by the way, not 14. While I would not expect to reach the specified duration, I do know that I have got closer to 7 hours (with around 30% left) from the 5S+I  had before I returned it for a 5+ as I decided there was not enough battery life for my use.

Ultratrac is not the answer. Finding out why your particular 5S+ has apparently such a short battery life is the key.
