Garmin Pay stopped working June 2019 (Fenix 5s Plus)

Hello, my Garmin pay stopped working near the end of June 2019.  I was just on a live chat with Garmin where they suggested doing a soft reset (holding down upper left button until the device shuts off).  I'm going to test that later today.  If that does not work then they have instructed me to try a master reset.  Has anyone else experienced this issue when using the watch?  I really do not want to do a master reset on this device.

Thanks!

They actually sent me a replacement. Apparently there is a hardware issue.

  • Thanks. I may need to contact them then.

  • The issue I've experienced as a Canadian user is that Garmin Pay still only supports a grant total of four obscure credit cards in this country, so despite the fact that they claim they're 'adding new cards all the time(!)' at no point have I been able to use it.

  • What happens when you enter a credit card that is not supported? Does it prevent you from adding it? Or does it let you add it but then fail when you try to use it?

    Hi

same problem with fenix 5x plus and V9.10.0. Called the hotline, they confirmed that there is currently an issue existing and should be resolved with an update sooner or later. Let's see when it will work again. First noticed on Tuesday.

Miraculously, it works again after the update but the phone can't read it when I tested it. Problem solved with the software update. Thank you.

  • I fixed mine this week (before the V10 upgrade hit my watch) by performing a factory reset. It also fixed problems I had with inaccurate treadmill distance and a problem with connecting my Running Pod (it just stopped working one day). The V10 upgrade just happened to my watch this morning so I am hoping it didn't break something again. If V10 does not fix your problem, try resetting your watch. You can do a factory reset through the menu, but I didn't do it that way so cannot say if that works the same as what I did. See below for the steps I took.

Remove all credit cards saved in Garmin Pay and then delete the watch from the phone Connect app. Once you do this, you will not be able to reset the watch using the watch menu and will have to do it as described below.

    • Turn watch Power off.
    • Press and release power button while also pressing the Start and Back Buttons.
    • Once the Garmin logo appears:
      • Beep 1: release START button
      • Beep 2: release BACK button
    • Add watch to Connect app on phone as part of the watch set-up process.

It will erase all data and you will have to set everything back up. The biggest pain for me was returning the watch face to the configuration I had before, but that is a cosmetic issue.

  • Have you managed to restore totals?

  • Can you clarify what you mean? Everything on my watch was saved in the Connect app. I deleted the watch from the app first because I was afraid if I reset the watch while it was connected, it might erase something in the app. No historical data was deleted in the app using the reset process I followed. Maybe there is some watch functionality you are using that I am not using?
