What's your opinion on these issues?

Good afternoon everyone.

Recently i bought a Fenix 5 plus to replace a forerunner 630.

I have the foolowing issues:

1. The button start activity seems to have 2 stages of pressing (or so it looked like it). Like it would have one soft pressing for one function, the you could press harder and you would get the second function. But, I never see 2 functions neither i see any reference to it... So could it be that the button is not working properly? Do you have this on your watch?

2. About 10 days ago I registered a new record on "running" activity: fastest 5 Km in 27 minutes . Yesterday, It detected a new greater distance, and, the fastest 7 km in... 29 minutes? What gives, is this a bug?

Waiting for your comments.

Thank you.

Ricardo Santos.

  • to your first issue:

You can set shortcuts for each button und several button combination, accessible by hold buttons rather than pressing them. Starting a second/third,forth/so on activity and merging all of them is done by holding the start button: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/fenix5/EN-US/GUID-9122383D-6612-460E-BFD0-D2A43BAA979C.html

  • Thanks for your answer, but it was not quite what i was asking. I'. asking if the start activity button has 2 stahes and not two possible funtions. Kind of like a camera as when pressing lightly to focus, then pressing deeper for shooting. I feel those 2 stages on the button, but not sure if those are 2 stages, or some bbroken gasken that causes the button to jump...

Anyone feels this on the start actiivity button?

  • Mine is like that as well.

My observation is that the feel/«clickiness» are very temperature dependant, which is kind of logic as the metal buttons would expand different with temperature than the plastic housing.

  • Except that´s excatly what you asked:

    • just a short press, feels to you like "soft pressing" = start/stop activity
    • press and hold, feels to you like " press harder" = Doing a Multisport Activity like described.
  • Except that´s excatly what you asked

No that’s not what he asked.

Hard/soft is not the same as short/long.

  • Yep, various people have been complaining online that the buttons on some of the newer Garmins feel like they have two stages -- almost like a digital camera where you press the button halfway to focus and press fully to take a picture.

But nope, none of the buttons are supposed to have two stages....

all of my buttons have two stages to them,  I thought that's what they're supposed to feel like....

  • On mine only one button acts like that. So I should take this as normal, and not a problem on the seals?... (water proof seals)

That´s what he asked, that´s what I answered too in the best way possible, plus explaining the issue based on how it feels. Take it or leave it until somebody can give a better explanation.
