Fenix 5 Plus useless after 10 months

Hi all,

my beloved Fenix 5 Plus after 10 months is almost useless.

It first started to freeze itself (the watch face was frozen and the watch didn't respond to any buttons pressed). Two days later sensors are all dead: HR, altimeter (floor count and altimeter), gyroscope (steps and other stuff)...I can't get any other data anymore. The battery now lasts a single day only.

I tried performing both a settings reset and even a data+settings reset. Nothing changed

I tried installing first the latest 7.55 beta and later on even reverting back to 7.10 stable release firmware. Nothing changed. Moreover when selecting info menu I got 0.00 version for both WHR and Sensor Hub.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks in advance

  • Mine started restarting for no reason, and Garmin replaced the watch.  Your first step is to contact Garmin with the problems, and go from there.  I had no problem getting them to replace the watch.

  • My Garmin Chronos did this at one point. Garmin replaced it for me with no issue. They did require I work through a full reset with their help and then either send the broken one back first or put down a deposit.

The one I got was in a box and included all the parts. They only asked for the watch itself back so I ended up with a full set of accessories (bands, charge cable, fancy wood box). All in all, I thought they handled it well.

  • Posting your topic here is useless, especially if this is a hardware issue. If you’ve only had your watch for 10 months, then it’s covered under warranty. I’d call Garmin (NO EMAIL) and request your watch to be replaced.

  • Thanks. Just curious, how long does it take for them to replace it?

  • Thanks nice to know. I’ll ask and in case I’ll send the watch alone too.

  • I cannot be sure it’s a hardware issue although it seems to be very probable....

  • It took almost 2 weeks from the date I mailed the watch in, until I had the new one in my hand.  I have an Apple Series 4 watch, so I just waited, rather than put down a deposit on the replacement.  I was told I'd get a "like new fully refurbished" unit, but when it came, it was a brand new, sealed box, with all of the accessories, so like Muness, I wound up with double watch strap, charging cable, instructions, etc..  Pretty cool, nothing but praise for my experience.

  • Garmin’s customer service is outstanding, I have nothing but praise for them (when you talk to them on the phone).

  • I agree. And it must be because of the support they need to give on their buggy software :)
