Training status activities

Are running and cycling the only activities that generate Training Status on the 5X+? The widget says to run or cycle, but reading the manual didn’t really pin it down to just those. It says outdoor activities.

I hike 15 to 20 miles a day with a 20-30# backpack. Was curious if this outdoor activity would generate any status. So far, it says not, but the Vo2 and other screens in the widget show data. Im just not sure if it’s accurate.

  • I am in the same boat. Hike every day, do interval training and no Training status.

I did 3000 ft vert a few days ago. in 1hr.25mins spent most of the time in the red around 150 bpm and that didn't count.

  • As you probably know Training Status consists of two components: Fitness and Training Load.

All timed activities will contribute to Training Load, however only the native Run and Cycling apps will generate updates for the Fitness component (VO2max).

If you don’t do running or cycling at all your watch will probably start to indirectly generate VO2max values based on your daily activity levels, however to be valid input for Training Status the VO2max values needs to be directly generated from specific activities.

  • Thank you for the input. That’s what I was looking for.
