The firmware release cadence seems to be quite slow at the moment:
I'm not after new features (although they would be nice and greatly appreciated!) but I would like the battery life and slow map drawing to be fixed!
Is there any chance that someone from Garmin could give an indication of when the next release will be?

Try being an Epix owner....
The 5+ has received 6 updates since July of ‘18, not counting numerous beta's. That averages to roughly every 2 months for an update.
Try being a Descent Mk1 owner, we’ve had 4 updates since…

Not that I want to one-up you (or perhaps it's a one-down) but try being a D2 series owner …

Not that I want to one-up you (or perhaps it's a one-down) but try being a D2 series owner -- our watches get outdated every year in July when a new one is released at Oshkosh, after which the release cycle withers out. 
And, we too have no betas.
As you point out though, such is the way that software/hardware/technology devices are. But the product is good (some issues with using in metric countries) and the Aviation Support group is great.
