Firmware Release Cadence?

Hi,

The firmware release cadence seems to be quite slow at the moment:

  • 7.1 came out a month ago.
  • 7.51 beta came out 28 days ago
  • 7.52 beta came out 21 days ago.

I'm not after new features (although they would be nice and greatly appreciated!) but I would like the battery life and slow map drawing to be fixed!

Is there any chance that someone from Garmin could give an indication of when the next release will be?

Thanks

  • I agree. I would also like fixed:

    Garmin Coach widget

    Night altimeter calibration.

  • Are you kidding me? Days?

Firmware 6.0 came out more than half a year ago. It quickly turned out that it had huge problems with power spikes from some third party power meters, for example the Stryd running power meter. Garmin quickly fixed that in a beta - only took a few weeks from the problem was discovered.

So now they had a solution and could soon release a stable version, right?

No, the stable version took an additional 6 months - for fixing a problem, which they had an existing solution for all the time.

So don't worry about days for fixing problems, which don't yet have a solution. Worry about months for problems, which have a solution.

  • maybe its because they are adding these new features...??? lets hope

  • You are too optimistic...

  • The 5+ has received 6 updates since July of ‘18, not counting numerous beta's. That averages to roughly every 2 months for an update.

Try being a Descent Mk1 owner, we’ve had 4 updates since January ‘18, with no beta’s. Garmin will continue to support the 5+ series for about another 1-2 years. Buying a software related product will always have a shorter shelf life, that a regular watch.

  • > Try being a Descent Mk1 owner, we’ve had 4 updates since January ‘18, with no beta’s.

Not that I want to one-up you (or perhaps it's a one-down) but try being a D2 series owner -- our watches get outdated every year in July when a new one is released at Oshkosh, after which the release cycle withers out. Slight smile And, we too have no betas.

As you point out though, such is the way that software/hardware/technology devices are. But the product is good (some issues with using in metric countries) and the Aviation Support group is great.

  • Night altimeter calibration.

    What's this about?

  • Try being an Epix owner....

  • The altimeter should calibrate during the night when connected to a mobile. Used to work like clockwork but now it never does.

  • Wow - still waiting for another beta release (it's just about a month since 8.02 came out).  Seems to be very slow nowadays for both the 5+ series and the 945.

What on earth is happening with Garmin these days?
