Golf shot tracking does not work

Anyone else use their 5+ for golf? The shot tracking feature for me has not worked for months reliably. I have sent quite a few FIT files over the Fenix team and they report they cannot reproduce the issue.

Anyone else have the same problem?

  • I was thinking the same, but i heard all the devices have the same issue, which got worse after recent software updates.
Indeed, they seem to REFUSE to acknowledge the issue.

Some time ago from Garmin they even told me "well, you know, it's not really a golf device...."...

I don't understand why they don't simply implement the manual measurement, disabling the swing detector....

I don't have many other ideas...

  • I've got in touch with Support service.
Unbelievable, they simply DENY the issue, saying that their "senior golf specialist" can't reproduce the issue.

Despite all golf users report the issue, we must be all dumb....

And they refuse to consider to implement the basic, easy, reliable, most wanted workaround, the manual shot measurement like in Garmin S3, S4, etc....

Very poor customer service, i had to insist as they wanted to close the call immediately and "push back" by saying that i had to do a master reset, which of course i did already (twice).

  • Sent mine to support.

    Crazy.

They say they never received ANY complaint about this issue, worldwide.

I'll let you know when they send it back to me

  • The watch has been replaced with a brand new one. No indication of what happened, i haven't yet tried it on a course.
I hope at least they recorded the issue, as they refused to do so at the beginning

  • In case anyone is interested and in light of Garmin getting in touch, I tried a FR945 and this works fine with auto shot tracking. I sent my Fenix back for a replacement and now moved this on. The 945 is a keeper for me.

Oh as a added bonus, you can select distances in the golf app independently of the watch on the 945! So that can remain on metric for all my running and the golf app is on yards. Hurrah! Been after this for years. Don’t know if they plan to add this onto other devices.

  • I have a different problem in F935: forums.garmin.com/.../golf-activity-activity-with-average-hr-training-effect-and-route-not-created

I tested this last week after the spring time and it did work few rounds and then again failed. I'm hoping that the new release, currently in beta for F935, will fix this finally. Maybe not...

  • FYI, Garmin has reached out to me about this issue so it appears they are looking into it.  My experience with auto shot seems to have gotten worse since the last firmware update, to the point where it only detects a handful of tee shots per round.  My swing speed with my driver is over 100mph so it's not like I'm making weak contact.  Here's to hoping that they can reproduce and resolve this.

  • Hi RadAd, same here.

I actually got my Fenix 5 Plus replaced, and i went out for the first time on a 18 holes today.

    SAME or WORSE than before.

On 18 holes it counted EXACTLY 10 shots (see screenshot), some tee-shots, and some random fairway woods.

    Nothing more.

It seems that with latest software the issue got out of control, and i even have a new device.

I keep asking for the MANUAL shot measurement, excluding the swing detector which is totally faulty, but they don't seem to listen.

It could be such a basic feature to implement......

  • My rounds look very similar.  I'm at the point where I use my old but reliable S3 for all of my rounds except men's night at my club.  I love the navigation features in this watch but for a grand I expected the golf app to at least match that of legacy golf devices so that I could retire my 2012 hardware.  If this doesn't get resolved the 5 Plus will probably be the last watch in the line I purchase.

  • This is exactly my feedback when I had my 5+. Since moving over to the 945 it is MUCH better! It only missed 1 or 2 shots for the entire 18 holes. This has to be a firmware issue.
