Golf shot tracking does not work

Anyone else use their 5+ for golf? The shot tracking feature for me has not worked for months reliably. I have sent quite a few FIT files over the Fenix team and they report they cannot reproduce the issue.

Anyone else have the same problem?

They still refuse to acknowledge the issue...

They asked me: "are you sure you put it on the right arm"...

    Seriously?????

Still not sure why they don't implement a freaking manual shot measurement, solving ALL issues.

I'd like to try the 945 but I'd avoid reselling mine losing money...

  • I get the odd erratic reading, but 99% of the time haven't had any issues

5 months passed, new firmware, same issue.

Works possibly works, 3 shots detected on 9 holes

  • I still have issues with the feature.  In my experience, it is very bad at detecting driver shots I've hit off a tee.  Anything I hit off the ground from the fairway seems to register.  I feel like there's a very simple fix for this: when the user accesses Measure Shot from the golf menu, start a new shot measurement if there is not one tracking on the current hole.  The Beta Testing Team has recently reached out to me and says that they are looking into it, so here's to hoping.

  • Excellent - here is hoping. I wonder if it affects the recent Fenix 6 as well?

they were mentioning the same to me 1 month ago, that's why i'm a bit puzzled. The one suggested by RadAd would be a "no-brainer" solution, i.e. starting manually the measurement.

But unfortunately they refuse to listen..... I told them not less than 10 times, and i'm not sure they listen / care

Again with support center of Garmin.... Like all other times, they say that it's the first time they register this issue and no other client is having the same issue.
I believe they make fun of me now.....

  • The problem is likely that user reports aren't being logged or tagged properly, as opposed to any intent to ridicule customers.  I called Garmin Support twice last summer about this so your report definitely wasn't the first instance worldwide.  IT support agents put up with a lot of crap and in my experience generally want to do everything they can to help so I'll always give them the benefit of the doubt.

I thought the same, that they don't log properly the issues, but everytime it seems i have to re-explain the issue from scratch.

    Quite frustrating.

As long as they solve the issue i would be happy, the easiest would be with the manual starting of a shot measurement.....

Let's keep us updated on any news, i've multiple fronts open.

Obviously i can't get it replaced for the third time...

  • I agree that it's frustrating and this is something that Garmin should look at improving as a company.  I've replaced the watch as well and I think the evidence points to bugs in the feature as opposed to user error.  Not only did I encounter the same thing on my 5x two years ago, but I know people at my golf club that report the same problem on the S20, which is a dedicated golf watch.
