Calories being duplicated for outdoor cycling activities

Hi,

Basically this is a similar issue to the one I had a while back, only now with the outdoor cycling program. The watch will duplicate calories by uploading not only the activity calories but also some other mysterious active calories even when it's not being worn, but is being used as a bike head unit. A 400 calorie bike activity will show about 800 active calories making calorie tracking for food intake vastly inflated.

A corresponding indoor ride will however register the correct 400 or so active calories on an otherwise sedentary day. Calorie syncing is once again broken in Garmin Connect and such a core functionality being useless does not paint their QC in a favourable light.

  • Really, am I the only one with this issue?

The calorie integration works well for indoor cycling on the 5+ and all cycling on my Edge 1030. Surely outdoor cycling should not duplicate calories on the watch and I'm not the only one with the issue.

  • Are you using two devices (say the watch and an Edge).  Are you connected to something like MyFitnessPal?  Do you see multiple activities at the same time?

  • I use my Edge 810 on a couple of my bikes for cycling and my Fenix for another, I have Trueup turned on and never see this. However as someone else mentioned I did find some things got duplicated due to MyFitnessPal so it removed my fitness tracker from there, it still logs all my activities from Garmin but no longer sends any back to Connect

  • I do have MyFitnessPal connected, but it's bizarre that it only happens during outdoor cycling tracking on the watch. I also use the watch for indoor cycling and strength training with no duplication in this case.

You see, when I get duplication I only use the watch and not the edge to record an activity, therefore only one activity is being recorded, to me this seems like a bug with the watch.

The activity calories are correct, however the active calories are doubled when the duplication occurs.

I just need more data points from other users to see if this is also the case for them.
