"200 course point max. exceeded, final 79 points will not be shown".

I receive the following error when trying upload a gpx or tcx track. "200 course point max. exceeded, final 79 points will not be shown".

What does this mean and what will happen to the navigation beyond 200 points??

According to info for the fenix 5 plus, limit should be 1000 waypoints.

    Can I split the course in 2 and load the second course mid-activity ?

    Yes, you can for sure. I do it all the time. You can even upload a new course to the watch during activity. What you do is stop the activity, choose resume later, go to GC on your phone, sync the new course, and after it is synced to the watch choose resume activity, go into settings, chose stop navigation which will stop the current course, and after that choose Navigation, Courses, choose the new course and select it and do course. Works for sure.

    It's annoying to have to work around it. If there are just a few navigation points over, then an option is to remove some. Literally, go into the Garmin Connect and edit the course, removing obvious turns such as 5m zig-zags that you aren't going to miss. If you've followed popular routing there is often loads of opportunity to do this, without compromising your navigation.
