Watch : Garmin Fenix 5X Plus.
Original Firmware : 7.10 (updated to 7.10immediately after purchase)
Current Firmware : 7.52 Beta (updated on the 19th of May 2019 - yesterday)
Phone : iPhone X
IOS at the time of Garmin Fenix 5x Plus purchase : 12.2
IOS at this time : 12.3 (updated on the 19th of May 2019 - yesterday evening, AFTER watch fw update to 7.52 beta)
Problem : With IOS 12.2 and watch firmware 7.10 (still happening the same way on IOS 12.3 with watch fw 7.52 beta) ->
On and after most nights, the notifications from the phone do not come through to the watch.
Problem Description :
All DND (global and while asleep) are OFF
- General Timeframe when notifications stop comming : AT NIGHT and after the night (I cannot say for sure what time interval)
- One night when I drove and did not sleep, the notifications did not stop comming
- Most (95%) nights notifications stop comming to the watch (but there are one or two occasions on 4 weeks in which the notifications did not stop comming)
- During the day, so far, the notifications ALWAYS COME through to the watch
Initial steps :
- First occurence : I Restarted the iPhone X : This Solved the problem temporarily (that is until the next night)
- Second occurence : I fiddled with watch settings
- Turned global DND to ON and OFF again (as you can see below, the global DND is OFF for my watch) : Did NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM
- Turned DND while Sleep to ON and OFF again (as you can see below, I keep the DND while sleep always OFF so that notifications come to the watch even when I am asleep) : Did NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM
- In the Watch Menu : Settings->Phone->Alerts (which were ON), I toggled the option to OFF and then to ON again : This Solved the problem temporarily (that is until the next night)
- Then it kept happening after most nights, and I toggled the Alerts off and back on - in the watch menu to solve the problem for that day
Secondary steps :
A. I decided to take a chance to update to the latest 7.52 beta available on the garmin website because it said amongst other things
Change History
Changes made from version 7.51 to 7.52:
- Fixed an issue where smart notifications could intermittently stop working on iOS devices.
- Fixed an issue with golf auto-scoring while using CT-10.
- Fixed an intermittent issue where the device could crash when using the Xero widget.
- Fixed an issue where the device could crash during a Biking activity when using a speed or cadence sensor.
B. Then I also updated my IOS to the current and latest 12.3.
While awake, past the set bedtime, last night, with 7.52 beta and IOS 12.3, again the notifications stopped working, while I was watching tv. The notifications of course worked on the phone.
I again did a temporary fix on the watch by going to Settings->Phone->Alerts (which were ON), I toggled the option to OFF and then to ON again
Conclusion : As it seems to happen only at night, I suspect the issue has something to do with the watch being in a relatively motionless state. Somehow, it's like the DND while sleep turns on, and not off again, BUT AGAIN, I keep ALL DND (global and while sleep) OFF.
Please fix the problem, as this is 50% of the reason I got this top version watch, so that I will get reliable notifications and reliable information.

- Do Not Disturb while sleep : OFF (so notifications should always come through)
- Alert Tones : ON

- During an Activity : ON / Show : All Notifications / Alert : Tones and Vibration
- Not During an Activity : ON / Show : All Notifications / Alert : Tones and Vibration
- Sleep :
- Normal Bed Time : 00:30 (personal setting)
- Normal Wake Time : 12:30 (personal setting)
- HR Permanent Monitoring (Wrist Heart Rate): ON
- Auto Update Apps : OFF
- Auto Upload Activities : ON
- Physio TrueUp : ON

PS: On beta 7.52, the battery drains faster than 7.10 final version. Normally under controlled conditions with a very simple watchface (time/date/steps/battery) I would lose MAX 2% a day depending on the number of notifications. Now, on 7.52 beta, it's 4% a day.
