New Garmin user- using a training plan workout with ad-hoc routes?

Hello there fellow Fenix 5 users!

I’ve had my fenix 5x plus for a couple of weeks now and I love it! I have recently started with 1/2 marathon training plan. 

My question is this: if I have a workout to do today for say, 3 miles, can I ALSO have the fenix give me a random 3 mile route to run to accomplish said training run?

I have tried the later independently and it works fine. But I’m not sure if I can do both?

This watch has been transformative for me. I never knew how awesome the FirstBeat metrics were. What a great design the watch is and how I don’t need a touchscreen :-)
