Fenix 5 Plus crashes when paired to a speed/cadence sensor.

Hi All, I regularly do indoor bike training (Wattbike Atom) using either Sufferfest or Zwift, but since I got my 5 Plus I want to record my activities via the watch as well so that they are recorded for the purpose of the Training Status, Vo2 max etc. I have managed to add the power meter with no issues, however every time I add the speed / cadence sensor, the watch crashes and continually reboots until I turn the Wattbike off or move out of range.

I have Software Version 7.10.0.0.

Any suggestions?
  • Seems that in beta 7.51 there could be a fix for cadence sensor related crashes.

I haven't tested that though and haven't had crashes with just a cadence sensor (without power).

Sadly, as it was with the previous 6.00 firmware's power spike issue, the only option with an indoor trainer was to go with the beta since it took almost half a year before the official 7.00 release. So maybe the beta is worth trying out.
  • Thanks @TommIR however the BETA says not appropriate for those in the APAC region. Do you know why this is? Should I go with the BETA anyway?

  • Sorry, I don't know but if Garmin says it is not suitable then probably it isn't and I wouldn't attempt it.

Maybe best contacting Garmin support but at least for the power spikes with firmware 6 they only told me about the official release fixing the issue about half a year since the bug report although the issue was fixed in 6.51 beta two weeks after.

From what I have read, they seem to publish APAC releases about 5 weeks after the official ROW releases with no access to betas.

I have the ROW version (European) and I actually had problems with the cadence sensor with 7.10 after all since it didn't connect or show any readings (first I just thought it ran out of battery) but that was fixed by upgrading to 7.52 beta and the sensor started working again. I had no crashes though.
