The only reason I can think of is different looks.

And perhaps better water resistance, at least on paper.

It has a longer name and is therefore better.

Weight and size?

So actually no reasons to buy a Fenix 5 series over 945 now other than looks. Jesus Garmin. That's a smart move.

The Fenix series are more rugged and as a result are probably more suited to those more active sports. The 945 is a triathlon specialised watch

Plus the Fenix series predate the 945. The 945 is probably more runner focused and so is specialised to that. The fenix is for those who perhaps are a little more eclectic in their sports plus prefer a more sturdy design
