5S or 5S+

Hi

I am looking at getting either the 5S or 5S+ but I can't decide on which one to get and if getting the 5S+ is worth the extra $250.

Those that got the 5S+ why did you get the 5S+ and not the 5S?

What are the positive and negatives of the 5S+?

Thank you :)
  • I think it’s fairly simple, the 5S+ is physically slightly smaller and slightly lighter than the 5+ (same screen size though), but this comes at the expense of battery life (so it has a smaller battery). In all other respects the 5+ and 5S+ are identical (other than choices of colour, sapphire and titanium variants). If you’re not sure I’d strongly recommend you going to a shop that stock both and try both on. I understand most women will go for the 5S+ due to the smaller size (my daughter happily wears a 5+ though); but a lot of men I know have also ‘assumed’ they have got small wrists and should go for the 5S+, but when I’ve given them the 5+ to try on they’ve changed their minds and gone for that size and the better battery life.
  • Ah, just realised I’ve misread your question :o, but the comments still stand and may be of interest, so I’ll leave them there. So physically the 5S+ is the same external dimensions as the 5S and about the same weight, but the 5S+ has a bigger screen size (actually the same as the 5, 5+, 5X and 5X+). The key functions the 5S+ has over the 5S are: maps, music, Garmin Pay, larger internal storage (for maps and music) and a slightly slicker user interface. There is also the concern from early 5 and 5S units that some folks found they weren’t so good at connecting to sensors; this seems to have been quietly fixed by Garmin in the last year, so perhaps make sure you buy from a shop that had a high turnover of stock and so is more likely to be selling a recently manufactured unit, if you go for a 5S. The 5S+ never had this problem (not reported on these forums and people I know at least). I can’t really tell you which is best to buy, as it depends what features you want, what price you can get each for and whether the screen size difference maters to you.
  • Not what you asked but if was buying now I'd buy the 945. It has more features (reviews call it a plastic MARQ) and has the new ohrm and GPS chipset
  • But there are some cracking deals to be had on the Fenix 5S+ for those that shop around, I'm sure because the 945 is out now.
